Following the way of Whatsapp, Viber has also added end-to-end encryption to its platform. From now, all messages and calls will be encrypted. It has also added a way to hide chats on your account.

Viber is also rolling out a new account verification feature in this latest update. Users will also have an option to manually authenticating contacts by selecting it as ’trusted’. Viber will monitor these trusted contacts’ authentication keys for changes to ensure that a user is talking to the right person. If connection to other person is safe, you will see the green lock but red lock will appear if there is any issue. Red lock icon can also indicate a man-in-the-middle-attack
Viber is also enhancing security with a new feature called ‘Hidden Chats’. With the encrypted chat feature, chats will not be available to any person other than persons involved in the chat. But other persons can still see the chat in the sender’s or receiver’s phone. Hidden chats features allow users to hide those messages so other persons can only be seen by entering 4-digit PIN.
Users only need to update their app on the respective platform. But, this update will be gradually and will take time in rolling out globally.
