Yesterday, Samsung launched two new smartphones Samsung Galaxy ON5 and Samsung Galaxy ON7 in India. These devices target Indian youths aka Internet Generation. Galaxy ON5 is priced at Rs. 8990 and Galaxy ON7 is priced at Rs. 10990. Samsung boasts too much about the always-on 4G connectivity and battery performance of these devices. Not just connectivity and battery, other things of the devices also seems to be impressive. Indian youths also expect good camera and good gaming performance. Did Samsung get success in that? lets figure out.

Samsung Galaxy On5 and On7: First impressions

Both devices come with the similar design but the only major difference in size due to the different screen sizes. These Samsung devices come with same Samsung’s tradition design with a physical home button, but the back of the devices has a leather layer which offers good grip and improves the look. Back cover and battery of these devices are removable.

Samsung Galaxy On5 comes with a 5 inch HD TFT display while Galaxy On7 features a 5.5 inch HD IPS LCD display. Display is not as good as it was in j series of smartphones by Samsung, but still it is good in terms of sharpness and viewing angles. I couldn’t check much due to restriction of demo zone.

Processor on these devices is also not the same. Galaxy on5 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor  while Galaxy On7 is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor. Both devices come with 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. Both devices support expandable storage up to 128 GB. Good thing is that USB OTG is supported.

Samsung Galaxy On5 comes with an 8megapixels rear camera and a 5 megapixels front camera. But Galaxy on7 comes with a 13 megapixels rear camera and a 5 megapixels front camera. The camera app in the phone offers various modes and effects. Most talked features are Touch to focus, Face detection, Geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), Beauty mode and Panorama. The camera of these phones seems good and offers satisfactory performance even in low-light conditions.

Talking about connectivity features these devices support Dual-SIM 4G connectivity. Other connectivity features are 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, FM radio, Bluetooth 4.0, GLONASS and GPS/ A-GPS. In terms of connectivity, both devices are same. 4G is the most talked feature because if its ultra-data savings claims. Like Samsung claims for j Series of phones, these phones are also claiming to offer better 4G experience with faster connectivity and ultra-data savings mode to reduce phone bills.

Samsung Galaxy On5 comes with a 2600 mAh battery and Samsung Galaxy On7 comes with 3000 mAh battery. Samsung claims that these phone will offer improved battery performance. Galaxy on5 claims to offer 8 hours battery usage in 4G while other claims to offer 12 hours of continuous 4G usage.

I am only confused why Samsung priced these phone higher that its rivals. While we have phones with 3GB RAM, octa-core processor and even fingerprint sensor, why will someone go with these phones. Yes, Samsung has brand value but still people in India prefer to get most out of their money. I still think that Lenovo Vibe p1m and Coolpad note3 will be better options to go for.
