Now tracking the realtime location of a train is much easier with ‘RailRadar GPS‘. RailYatri.in has launched India’s first GPS based train tracking on Google maps with its app ‘RailRadar GPS’. This service provides exact location of a running train on Google Maps. So, you will always have the exact location of any train and decide when you leave for station. For your help, it also displays on-time/delay status.
Indian government tried to install GPS in all trains to start a similar kind of tracking system but our Indian rail network is very large and the project failed due to very high cost. So, RailYatri.in decided to bring something similar but feasible. They used the same approach used by Google Maps to show traffic information. This service rely on the location of passenger travelling in a train to get the train’s location. So, there is no requirement of GPS installation in any train. It also reveals the partial email of the passenger providing the train’s location info.
Company didn’t reveal how a passenger can share his location with the company to plot the location on the map. I guess users who will install the RailYatri.in app will have ability to share their GPS data to plot the train’s location.
With the increasing use of smartphone, almost all trains will have passengers with smartphone to share the location. So, this project have capability to track all the trains in realtime. But as a pilot project, company has only launched it for around 100 trains across the country.
