Microsoft releases new Maps app for Windows 10

Microsoft has today released the new Maps app for Windows 10. This is the universal Maps app which will run on both Desktop and mobile devices. This new maps app comes with all expected features including street view, satellite views, local search data and voice-guided navigation.

This new Maps app is only available for Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones under the Windows Insider program. This program is free and any one can become the part of it.

New Maps app brings features from both Bing Maps and HERE Maps.

On desktop, this map apps offers good user experience using Mouse and keyboards. On smartphones and tablets, you will be able to use the app with touch gestures easily. Pinch to zoom in or out is also available. You can also use two fingers to rotate the maps. Touching on the labels will show you information about the business or landmark. If it is the restaurant or hotel, it will also show reviews from Yelp and also allows you to directly make reservation from the app.

If you are at unknown place, you can easily find nearby places. With this feature you can find the places to eat, drink, and shop. Once you have found the place, use the guided navigation to visit the place by walking, driving or public transportation.

You can also see a place in 3D with the feature “Explore in 3D” within the app. It lets you virtually travel and explore that place in 3D. Streetviews and panaromas are also available for few places.
