Xiaomi Mi 4: First Impressions

On January 28, Xiaomi launched its high end smartphone Xiaomi Mi 4 in Indian market. This smartphone is priced at Rs. 19,999 and offers high end specifications. Unlike other Xiaomi smartphones, this smartphone is priced higher. But company is expecting to get similar response. MI 4 also brings MIUI 6 in India. In this article, we will take a look at the design and important features of the smartphone.

Design

At first, this smartphone look much like iPhone 6 Plus but when you look closely, there are various differences. It as a stainless steel frame that gives it a premium look. It is attractive and solid build smartphone.

If you check the front side of the smartphone, you will see the MI logo at the top. Speakers at the middle top with two sensors at both side. Just below the display, it has three touch buttons.

At back side, it has a rear camera with LED flash. At bottom of the back, it has the MI logo.

If you check the top side of the phone, it has the infrared sensor to connect the phone with other devices. It also has a regular 3.5 mm audio jack. 2 white strips works to as signal booster.

At bottom, it has micro-USB port and speakers. White strips for signal enhancements.

Display

It has a 5 inch full HD display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. Display is good, bright and sharp. It offers 441 ppi density. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass protection to make the glass scratch proof. Screen of the device will also work file even if you are wearing gloves.

Performance and memory

It has a powerful quad-core Snapdragon 801 with four Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.5GHz with Adreno 330 GPU. It has 3 GB RAM. This smartphone does not only have features on papers, it also delivers. Graphics intensive games also works smooth. Performance of the device seems good while performing various operations and gaming. Multi-tasking of the smartphone is also good.

OS

It runs on Android 4.4 kitkat based custom MIUI 6.0. MIUI does not have app drawer. You can access app at different sides of the screen. UI claims to offer so many improvements in this new version. Company also demonstrated various features and improved apps.

No doubt the MIUI offers more customization, privacy and security features that what we have in stock Android. There are thousands of themes available and many of those are designed for Indian users. You can also access thousands of wallpapers and other things.

MIUI 6

Camera

It has 13 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 8 megapixel front camera. Both camera gives sharp, vibrant and good image and video quality. Both camera have f/1.8 aperture lens. Rear camera offers quick auto focus. When you move camera to an object, it quickly focus on the object. You can check the photo and video sample at the end of the post.

Connectivity

It is packed with all general connectivity features. India variant of Mi 4 does not have 4G LTE connectivity. India variant of Mi 4 does not have 4G LTE connectivity. Connectivity features of the smartphone include 3G, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz), WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

Battery

It is packed with 3080mAh battery which claims to offer good talk time and stand by time. Company also claims that the smartphone comes with quick charging technology which can charge smartphone up to 60% in just 1 hour and full charge in just 2.5 hours. We only received the device for a quick look. So, we can not verify the claims of the company.
