Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has blocked 32 websites under the section 69A of the Information Technology(IT) act, 2000 and the IT act Rules, 2009. Popular websites like GitHub, SourceForge, Daily Motion, Vimeo, Codepad and more. The section 69A of IT Act, 2000 implies that “Power to issue directions for blocking for public access of any information through any computer resource”. These are blocked on the reason of security concerns. Based on order from DoT, ISPs have blocked access to them.
Even before, torrent website has been blocked in the same fashion. Blocking of entire website rather than just a URL is somewhat surprising. Daily Motion and other include are video while, GitHub and Codepad comes under the teaching programming.
It looks like; Vimeo has been unlocked few hours back and if DoT does not find any security issues with other blocked websites, then those websites will also be unblocked.
Have you found any more websites which got blocked apart from the list attached? Please, do share with us through comments.
