World’s third largest smartphone company, Xiaomi is planning to manufacture its devices in India. It is also in talks with its manufacturing partners in China to extend their support to make it possible and make the devices in India.
Xiaomi is set to start the assembly of handsets within two years in India. They also considered to get the Nokia’s now-defunct manufacturing plant near Chennai for assembly of their devices. But this was not followed later because it needs large component ecosystem.
“We’ve started talking to some potential partners to see if they can assemble the phones for us in India,” said Manu Jain, head of Xiaomi’s India operations.
India is the big and important market fr Xiaomi. They have sold around 800,000 Mi3 and Redmi 1S smartphones in India. Yesterday, they also launched Redmi Note and announced Redmi Note 4G in India.
Hugo Barra, head of international operations confirms that their manufacturing partners are ready to come in India. So, in upcoming years, we may see “Made in India” smartphones at least from Xiaomi.
