Nokia Lumia 525 [Review]

Nokia Lumia 525

Nokia Lumia 525 is the recent addition in low cost Lumia series. This smartphone is the successor of Lumia 520. Lumia 525 is now available in Indian market. This smartphone comes with large screen, 1 GB RAM and nice camera. With impressive look and features, Nokia Lumia 525 is trending. So we thought to take a look on the phone and see what is good or bad in the phone.

Design

Nokia Lumia 525 comes with same design which you find in other Lumia smartphones. Lumia 525 comes in many attractive colors including blue, red, white, and black. We have Lumia 525 in black color that looks very nice. I really like the back side of the phone. Back side has pleasing matte finish that looks fine. But it makes phone slippery. Back surface is also prone to scratches and attracts fingerprints.

Right side (from our perspective) of the smartphone includes volume buttons, power button and camera button. At the bottom of the phone, it has a slot for microUSB jack. At the top, it has a 3.5 mm jack for connecting with speakers and earphones.

Lumia 525 Back

It has a 4 inch IPS display with 480×800 pixels resolution. Pixel count is only 233 ppi which is low. But we can not expect better than this at this price. You also get a Scratch-resistant glass at the top of the display.

Processor and Operating System

Nokia Lumia 525 is powered by a 1 GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8227 processor and Adreno 305 GPU. While using the apps and games, it responded fine. It runs on Windows Phone 8.0 Black.

Camera

It features a 5 megapixel rear autofocus camera that can capture images of 2592х1936 pixels resolution. It can also record 720p videos @320 fps. It lacks flash and front camera. These are what people miss in the phone. If we compare it with competitors, Galaxy S duos 2 features a front camera. But camera quality of Lumia 525 seems better.

I have also added photo and video taken by Lumia 525 at the bottom of the post.

Memory and Storage

Nokia Lumia 525 features a 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage. From 8 GB, only 4.37GB is available for users. It also has a microSD card slot to expand storage up to 64 GB. Memory and storage are the main things which are attracting customers. In past, low memory and internal storage was the main drawback of the Lumia phones.

Connectivity Features

Nokia Lumia 525 comes with HSPDA 21.1 MBps, HSUPA 5.76 MBps, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP and microUSV v2.0. It also has GPS with GLONASS for Nokia Drive and HERE maps. With Nokia Drive you will receive turn-by-turn voice guide for navigation. Surprising thing is that it does not need online connection. Before travelling, pre-load maps and use Nokia Drive offline.

Battery

It is packed with 1430 mAh battery that gives up to 336 hours stand by time and 17 hours talk time. It claims to give 48 hours music play back. Battery drains faster while connected to Wi-fi. But you can enjoy hours of music Playback.

Other Features

Nokia is offering Gameloft games worth Rs. 2000 for free. These games include Modern Combat 4, Asphalt 8 and Assassin’s Creed. Customers also receive 7 GB free SkyDrive storage that is pretty cool. You can use this storage for backing your data on cloud. With Nokia MixRadio, you can create your custom radio channels.

Speaker sound and in call sound of Lumia 525 is very loud and clear. But, earphone comes with smartphone disappoints. If you are music lover, you wouldn’t like the music quality of the earphones. But, it supports other earphones. So, you can purchase any good earphone to enjoy music with the phone. The handset can play full HD videos 1080p. You can enjoy videos and movies in 4 inch display of Lumia 525.

One important thing to note that the smartphone has only one SIM slot. But in India, people usually search for dual SIM smartphones.

Lumia 525 is a nice smartphone at this price. If you are not bothered about front facing camera and flash, this can be a nice choice at this price. There is no Android smartphone in the market offering such a nice user experience. 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage is the plus point. The only thing users ask whether they should go for Windows Phone or not. Answer is simple. You can purchase Windows Phone. Now, most of the games and apps are available for Windows Phone. Nokia is also offering free games worth Rs. 2000.
