Jelly Bean Powers 60% Android Devices, Kitkat Continues to Rise

Google has updated the Android platform statistics with new data. As expected, Jelly Bean and Kitkat continue to rise while older version of Android are losing market share. The data was collected in first week of January 2014.

Android Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 – 4.3) is now on 59.1 Android devices. It is 4.6% rise from last month. Gingerbread is till popular with 21.2% share but going down each month. Ice Cream Sandwich is at third place with almost 17% share.

Android Kitkat is also gaining popularity. Now, it powers 1.4% Android devices. In coming months we will see more devices launch with Kitkat.

There are many Indian manufacturers who are still launching Android devices with Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich. Main reason is that these version run fine on less powerful devices. As per Google claims. Kitkat can runs fine even on devices with 512 MB RAM, we can expect that more manufacturers will use kitkat on their devices. As of now, only few devices have received Kitkat update.
