Twitter Rolled Out Two-Factor Authentication Via SMSAfter so many Twitter accounts hacking, now Twitter has launched Two Factor Authentication through SMS to protect user accounts. This is similar to what we see in Google, Facebook or Dropbox.

After activating two-factor authentication in your account, you will receive a one time code in your mobile phone via SMS while signing in to your account. You will have to enter that code on twitter in order to use your account.

In past few months, we have seen that so many twitter accounts have been compromised. Hackers generally target media persons’ account to spread rumours. After this update, we will hopefully see less compromised accounts.

Although the update is rolled out to protect accounts, but brands and news companies will not get benefit from the feature. And we know that these are the main target for hackers. Reason behind this is that we can only sen one phone number as the recipient of the two-factor authentication codes. But in brands and news companies, several staff persons need to access the account. If they turn on this feature, only a single person would be able to login.

Two-factor authentication is being rolled out. You can find it in your account settings. If you do not see this in your account settings, you will see it soon.
