How To Block SMS on BlackBerry Phones

Many times, we face come annoying messages from known or unknown person and want to get rid of it. Now days, marketing companies also keep on sending irritating messages on our phone. Sometimes we are at the place where we do not want to receive any kind of messages. There may be many reasons for blocking SMS. So, thanks to BlackBerry 7 OS which has an integrated firewall to block unwanted SMS and emails from reaching our phone’s inbox.

To block unwanted SMS, BBM pings and Emails on your Blackberry, Follow these steps:

  • On the Home screen or in a folder, click the “Options” icon.
  • In the Options App, scroll down and choose the Security option from the list.
  • In the new Security Menu, Select Firewall setting.
  • Now you can select all those services which you want to filter. Select Text Messages to block unwanted SMS. (You can also add the exceptions – numbers, PINs or email addresses from which you wish to continue receiving messages.)

  • After this, save setting.
Note: If you use the firewall on your BlackBerry smartphone, blocked messages might still contribute to data usage in your wireless service plan.

Add Exception to allow a contact to continue send SMS and Emails

Follow the same steps and reach to the filter menu where you have selected services to block. See the Exception option below. Here follow these steps:

  • In the Exceptions section, select the Specific Addresses, Phone Numbers, or PINs check box.
  • Click “Add”.
  • Press the Menu key
  • Click one of the following menu items:
    1. Add Email Address
    2. Add Phone Number
    3. Add PIN
  • In the Enter new exception dialog box, type the contact information.
  • Press the Enter key.

Now you will no longer receive SMS or emails on your BlackBerry phone except from the person added in the exception list. To unblock, follow these steps again and remove the tick in the filter menu.
