SOPA is dead

After the blackout protest, Lamar Smith, who proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), has withdrawn the bill

SOPA is deadAccording to the latest news on Reuters, The Texas Congressman, Lamar Smith, the chief sponsor of SOPA said that he is pulling the bill until there is wider agreement on this.

“I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy,” U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith, a Republican from Texas and the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, told Reuters in a telephone interview.

“It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products,” Smith said.
This move came after 2 days of a widespread protest on internet on Wednesday by some popular websites including wikipedia, wordpress, firefox, reddit, Google and others. After that day many Congressmen dropped their support for SOPA and the bill has been taken off of the table for some days.
