Yahoo announced two step verification login

Yahoo has announced a new security feature for its users. This new feature is two step verification login. Google had already announced this type of verification few months back.

In this new feature, you can enable second “sign in verification”. That means, after login in your account with the password, you will have to verify the code sent to your mobile device or will have to answer a security question.

“To thwart account compromise, Yahoo! is introducing a stronger user authentication feature that aims to prevent account hijackers with a stolen password from accessing a person’s account,” Yahoo announced in a post.

“If you have a Yahoo! account, you can now further protect it by activating this new second sign-in verification feature from Yahoo! Account Info. As part of the process, you will be required to add a mobile phone number to your account and verify it via SMS,” it added.

This feature is in beta and only available in few countries which includes United States, Canada, India and the Philippines. It is expected to launch in March 2012 for all Yahoo users.
