Google acquires Zagat for less than $66 million

Google has just announced to acquire Zagat which is the user-generated restaurant surveys website. Google will use Zagat to its Maps for local search and rating.
Google VP Marissa Mayer wrote on blog,”I’m incredibly excited to collaborate with Zagat to bring the power of Google search and Google Maps to their products and users, and to bring their innovation, trusted reputation and wealth of experience to our users.”‘

Few years ago, Zagat was trying to sell itself for $200 million but now it has been acquired for less than $66 milllion. But the actual price of the deal was not disclosed by company. The Zagat reviews will become part of Google Places and its overall local efforts. Although Google show the Zagat link in search results just below the local place results. But now Google can use it as it want.

Google is trying hands in local deal and maps. So this deal will be helpful for many ways. It will be interesting to see how Zagat wil help Google to improve its products.
