Today, twitter has launched t.co URL shortener which will automatically shorten all URL’s 20 characters long or greater into t.co links. This test will affect some tweets and messages starting today.
Twitter announced, “Starting today, we’re going to start sending “canaries into the coal mine” to detect unforeseen load issues at scale. This means that a certain percentage of tweets & direct messages being sent into the system will automatically have the link wrapping behavior we’re rolling out more widely on August 15th.”
Twitter is working many of features this time to compete with Facebook. Yesterday it has announced for sharing pics with tweets and messages and now this URL shorten service. Twitter has launched many URL shortener services and is working to improve this service. If you could remember, it has already launched an automatic URL shortener in tweet few months back.
Twitter is still not getting success in URL shortening. People prefer bit.ly and Goo.gl for tweeting URLs in Tweet. This is the main reason why Twitter is working hard on this feature.
